Though simple things may ruin our self-esteem, there are usually some things we can do in order to fix our problem.

Now, if you think you’re experiencing what may be varicose veins, here are some common varicose vein symptoms to help you determine whether or not you have them:

Color: The color of varicose veins is pretty common and is usually a shade of blue or purple. These veins can also result in both colors and be a huge eyesore, which hurts someone’s self-esteem. Since the color is so noticeable and so different from the pigment of a person’s skin, they stand out tremendously.

Appearance: As stated above, varicose veins are very noticeable. Unlike the normal veins that run throughout our body, varicose veins usually have a twisting appearance and bulge out under the skin tremendously. Normal veins tend to lie flat and only really bulge out when we’re stressed or very hydrated. On the flip side, varicose veins are always bulging under the skin and don’t tend to lie flat under the skin.

Feeling: Other symptoms of varicose veins can be legs that feel heavy or swollen or even legs that feel burning sensations, throbbing and cramping. No matter which symptom a person is experiencing, they can all agree on the fact that they’d like to get rid of them, reduce the appearance of them and eliminate the aches and pains they may cause.

As you can see, there are some helpful symptoms that tend to be common in people with varicose veins. Since varicose veins may be the result of something more serious or even something such as a deeper vascular problem, it’s so important that you get your veins checked out by your physician.

Now, if you’d like to reduce the symptoms and the appearance of your veins, always keep in mind that you should only receive help from a <a

So, you might be asking yourself what you can do about it. Well, according to the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute website, as a first line of recommendations, there are lifestyle changes you can make to help deal with varicose veins.

Here’s a bit from the website:

Lifestyle Changes

Lifestyle changes often are the first treatment for varicose veins. These changes can prevent varicose veins from getting worse, reduce pain, and delay other varicose veins from forming. Lifestyle changes include the following:

Avoid standing or sitting for long periods without taking a break. When sitting, avoid crossing your legs. Keep your legs raised when sitting, resting, or sleeping. When you can, raise your legs above the level of your heart.

Do physical activities to get your legs moving and improve muscle tone. This helps blood move through your veins.

If you’re overweight or obese, try to lose weight. This will improve blood flow and ease the pressure on your veins.

Avoid wearing tight clothes, especially those that are tight around your waist, groin (upper thighs), and legs. Tight clothes can make varicose veins worse.

Avoid wearing high heels for long periods. Lower heeled shoes can help tone your calf muscles. Toned muscles help blood move through the veins.

Read more: Chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) is a medical condition affecting the veins, especially in the lower limbs when the blood no longer circulates back to the heart effectively. The disease starts with a variety of symptoms but remains largely unknown despite the potentially severe complications that can arise.

CVI is common: Up to 20 per cent of adults might be affected. By age 50, nearly 40 per cent of women and 20 per cent of men have significant problems in their leg veins. Anyone with a family history of varicose veins or who’s had multiple pregnancies or must often stand around for long periods is prone to CVI.

The recurrent symptoms include “heavy legs”, restlessness, fatigue, pain, swelling, muscle cramps and itching in the legs. The most common sign is a swelling in the ankles or whole feet that progresses to the lower legs.

The skin might redden or otherwise become discoloured, and there can be eczema, varicose and spider veins and, later on if untreated, venous leg ulcers. In advanced cases, blood clots can occur, a condition called superficial phlebitis or superficial venous thrombosis.

» <a
